Marlin Store-Brand Rebrands: Glenfield, JC Higgins, Sears & More

For decades Marlin built .22 rifles that were sold under other store brands. If you own one, it’s mechanically a Marlin — find the equivalent Marlin model in the chart above and use the same magazine. The most common case: the Glenfield Model 25 is the Marlin Model 25, so it takes the same #71903 magazine.

  • Glenfield — Marlin’s own store line (Glenfield 20 / 25 / 80 = Marlin 20 / 25 / 80, same magazine)
  • Sears / JC Higgins — .22 rifles built by Marlin for Sears
  • Western Auto, Coast to Coast, Montgomery Ward, WestPoint, Big 5 — Marlin-built store brands; match your model to the equivalent Marlin above

Not sure which Marlin your rebrand maps to? Send us your model number and we’ll confirm the exact magazine.

Marlin Model 60? It’s tube-fed and doesn’t use a detachable magazine — there is no box magazine to buy for it.

Marlin Magazine FAQ

What magazine fits a Marlin 795?

The Marlin 795 takes a factory .22 LR box magazine in 7-round (71900 black oxide / 71901 nickel) or 10-round — both are legitimate factory options. The same magazine fits the Model 70, 70P (Papoose), 70HC, 989, and 7000 semi-autos. Choose your capacity and finish based on how you shoot.

Does a Marlin Model 60 take a magazine?

No. The Marlin Model 60 is tube-fed and does not use a detachable box magazine, so there is no clip or magazine to buy for it. Only the box-fed Marlin models in the chart above take a detachable magazine.

Are Marlin .22 magazines interchangeable across models?

Within a family, yes. The 71900 / 71901 magazine (7-round or 10-round) fits the 70-series semi-autos including the 795, plus the 25N, 880, 925, and 995 bolt-actions. The 71903 (7-, 10-, or 15-round) fits the older 20, 25, 80, 780, and 781 bolt-actions. Rifles in .22 WMR or .17 HMR use a different magazine entirely. Match your exact model before ordering.

What is the difference between the Marlin 71900 and 71903 magazine?

The 71900 / 71901 fits the Model 70-series semi-autos (including the 795) and later bolt guns like the 880 and 925. The 71903 fits the older 20, 25, 80, 780, and 781 bolt-actions. They are not interchangeable, so confirm your model number before choosing.

What magazine does a Glenfield Model 25 use?

The Glenfield Model 25 is mechanically the Marlin Model 25, so it uses the same #71903 magazine. Marlin built rifles under several store brands — Glenfield, Sears, JC Higgins, Western Auto and others — and each maps to an equivalent Marlin model that shares the same magazine.

What magazine fits a Marlin chambered in .22 WMR or .17 HMR?

Marlin rimfire magnums such as the 25M, 25MN, 882, 917V, 925M, and 982 use the .22 WMR / .17 HMR magazine, available in 4-, 7-, and 10-round capacities. The semi-automatic 922M uses its own dedicated 7-round .22 WMR magazine.
