This is a .22 LR magazine. It will not fit a Marlin rifle chambered in .22 WMR or .17 HMR, and a .22 WMR/.17 HMR magazine will not fit here. The two magazine families are not interchangeable.
Every part of this magazine — body, follower, spring, and floor plate — is made to the original Marlin dimensions, so it drops into the magazine well and feeds the way the factory magazine did. Black oxide is a thin conversion coating fused to the steel rather than a paint or plating layer, so it won't chip or flake with normal use, and it matches a blued barrel.
